The Bible says: Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. The Bible did not say beware of the wolves outside the church. It said beware of the wolves inside it — the ones wearing the costume, carrying the flag, and asking for your vote in the name of God.
Donald Trump has been divorced three times, credibly accused of sexual assault by more than twenty women, and found liable for sexual abuse by a Manhattan jury. He paid $130,000 in hush money to a porn star while his third wife was pregnant with his son. He has never asked God for forgiveness — his words, not ours. He said in a 2015 interview he had never felt the need to ask God for forgiveness because he tries to do the right thing. That is not Christianity. That is the opposite of Christianity.
Ken Paxton’s own wife filed for divorce citing adultery — on biblical grounds, in her words. After 38 years of marriage Angela Paxton wrote: “I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation. But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.” Paxton spent nine years under felony indictment, had eight of his own senior aides report him to the FBI, was impeached 121 to 23 by his own party, and received a $6.6 million court ordered whistleblower judgment. Trump endorsed him anyway. The evangelical base followed.
This is not Christianity with a blind spot. This is not faith being tested by political reality. This is the complete abandonment of every value the faith claims to hold — and the replacement of those values with power worship dressed in scripture.
The Sermon on the Mount says blessed are the meek. Trump and Paxton are not meek. It says blessed are the merciful. They are not merciful. It says blessed are the pure in heart. The documented record speaks for itself.
White evangelical Christians are the most reliable voting bloc in American politics for two men whose lives represent a systematic rejection of everything the Gospels teach. That is not faith. That is a costume. The Bible has a specific word for people who wear it. Matthew 7:15. Look it up.
